After two nail biting in the Twenty20 series which marks the return of the international of this sport to Pakistan the hosts and Zimbabwe step a series of three matches a day on Tuesday with the aim of building for the future.
Pakistan won the series 2-0 Twenty20 Sunday in front of an audience of 27,000 in Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium but will be far from being happy on the way to two victories that saw them about snatching defeat from the jaws of conquest. The matches were played below huge security with 4,000 police officers who were guarding the stadium and one more 2,000 deployed on the way from the team hotel to the headquarters.
Security has increased the avoid a repetition of the attacks in 2009 on the Sri Lankan team bus which killed eight people and put Pakistan into exile sports for six years. One day the captain of Pakistan Azhar Ali who was not included in the Twenty20s said that the enormous excitement that surrounds the tour had helped the team forget its disastrous 3-0 beating ODI in Bangladesh last month.
The excitement at the return of the international of the sport was so great that helped us put our defeat Bangladesh in the back of our minds said Azhar who took charge after Misbah-ul-Haq retired after World Cup 2015 in April. It was unsatisfactory to misplace in Bangladesh but we will look to build a team for the future and improve what we did wrong in Bangladesh.
The 30 year old to middle hitter said to replace players like Misbah and Shahid Afridi which also withdrew a day after the World Cup would obtain time. When you misplace players of that caliber you need time to obtain your replacement it said and added that his team would not take Zimbabwe light. Pakistan have persisted with off road yarn Shoaib Malik and paceman Mohammad Sami both of which appear in the T20s team one day after a break of two and three years in that order. Opener Ahmed Shehzad too returns after having been left out of the tour of Bangladesh in what was called an attitude problem.
For Zimbabwe, the series represents another chance to ruin the Pakistan Welcome Party once threatened to close both Twenty 20s but finally lost in crucial passages of play in the death. Zimbabwe will lose the services of batsman as Brendan Taylor who quit international cricket to take a three year contract with the County of Nottingham shire England.
He was the best hitter of Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup with 433 runs at an excellent standard of the 72.16. Captain Elton Chigumbura took Taylor and paceman Tendai Chatara not on the tour with a fracture in the leg may be lost but said that his team will try to overcome the loss. That is good of life players come and go and get opportunities and players came here to take these opportunities he said.
Just want to try to carry that momentum from the World Cup and obviously improve one or two percent that didn't do well added Chigumbura whose team lost five of six matches in the mega event. Order half batsman Craig Ervine is likely to play after losing both the Twenty20matches because of the flu. Pakistan has won 43 of the 48 games of one day between the two sides with Zimbabwe winning three while one of every game ended in a draw and no results.
